A machine that can actually do the work

You need a laptop or desktop capable of running a real development environment — a code editor, a local database, containers, and a full Linux install. It doesn't need to be new or expensive. It needs to be capable and yours.

Linux. No exceptions.

Windows and macOS are consumer products. Linux is where engineering actually happens. Companies like Canonical (the team behind Ubuntu), Cloudflare, and Grafana Labs run their infrastructure on Linux — not as a trend, but as the professional standard. Switching your OS is step one of switching your mindset. If you're not willing to install a distro and live in a terminal, we should not work together.

Why learn core Python when AI can write code for you?

AI coding tools are a genuine force multiplier. They are also completely useless in the hands of someone who can't read what they generate.
